The Apple IPad is already a success and now the race is on by the world’s top technology companies to bring a better product to market. The Tablet PC battle is about to heat up. Asustek Computer a Taiwan company that pioneered the Netbook, joined the battle to take on Apple’s IPad, unveiling a tablet computer that will run on Microsoft Windows Software

The new device called the called the Eee Pad, will start selling in the first quarter of next year. The touch-screen tablet personal computer will use Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system and Intel Processor

In a potentially risky move that underscores the importance of software in the burgeoning tablet market, Asustek will also launch an application store, like Apple’s App store. Long a hardware maker, Asustek has far less experience developing consumer software.

Asustek’s announcement, which was expected, marks a victory for Microsoft in the intensifying battle over whose software will control tablet PCs, a segment that has been gaining increasing attention since Apple unveiled the iPad in January. That device, which came on the market in April, has already sold at least two million units.

Android, the operating system developed by Microsoft rival Google Inc. for Smartphones, has so far had the upper hand. Acer Inc., the No. 2 PC maker after Hewlett Packard Co., last week announced plans to start selling a tablet by October that will use Android. And No. 3 PC maker Dell said it is developing a five-inch tablet computer that will run on Android. Android is already marketed worldwide and there are thousands of apps already available. In addition Android is a open and free system allowing software developers to write custom apps. Microsoft windows is a closed system meaning Microsoft only allows parts of its source code available to developers and Microsoft charges for every copy of windows and office

Tablet PCs are the New rage with luxury goods makers designing fashionable cases for these new devices they promise to keep popping up wherever you go

Microsoft is watching the competition Apple and Google gaining market share at their expense. IPhone, IPad and Android devices have become so popular with consumers and it is largely at the expense of Microsoft. Google has been releasing phones worldwide that run its Android operating system.

Android like Apple is encouraging developers to write new software for business as well as leisure and productivity programs. Apple has its popular IPhone and has just released the impressive IPad. Microsoft has had a tablet Pc operating system for years and only 2 manufactures have produced Tablets running Microsoft Software

Microsoft is expected to announce major organizational changes at its Entertainment & Devices Division. It’s time for Microsoft to make some changes but I don’t see what shuffling up the Executive suite will help when competitors are developing and releasing devices that are challenging Microsoft Dominance in software. Microsoft is a global leader with its Windows Operating System, the Zune music player and the X box 360.

That Dominance is being challenged by Apple that continues to release blockbuster new devices free updates and a store with 200,000 apps. Google sells the Nexus One Smartphone and has licensed Android its operating system to thousands of developers and cell phone hardware manufactured. There is even a Rumor of a Google Brand Tablet PC

Google and Apple have stolen the thunder from Microsoft in the Smartphones business with the iPhone and Android. Most statistics show that the battle for the top spot is between Apple, Google, and BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion, despite Microsoft’s latest attempts with the upcoming Windows Mobile 7 OS

A tablet computer, whose emerging popularity has led to sales of more than one million IPads for Apple, is becoming another weak spot for Microsoft. First, the Redmond Company ditched the market without even showing a prototype, and then HP killed Windows off its upcoming Slate tablet, in exchange for Palm’s OS after purchasing the company. Dell has also opted for Android on its Streak Tablet PC

It’s unclear how this Microsoft shake-up would affect the company’s current mobile strategy. Microsoft needs to act like a small company and get products to market faster

The Mobile Phone Market is up big for the first quarter, worldwide, mobile phone vendors sold 314.7 million phones—smart and otherwise—in the first quarter, a 16% percent increase from the first quarter of 2009. Nokia, Samsung, and LG continue to grab most of the market with little year-over-year change, while numerous other vendors battle for small parts of the remainder. However, the importance of Smartphones can be seen in the overall mobile market. Big market share drops for Sony Ericsson and Motorola allowed BlackBerry maker RIM to move into fourth place globally.

The mobile phone market is up big for the first quarter of 2010 after sales declines during 2009, according to the latest sales figures. Smartphones are also growing faster each quarter as they continue to replace feature phones for many users. No surprise that the iPhone and Android-based phones saw the biggest gains, as the two platforms were the only two in the top five to gain market share year-over-year.

Global Smartphone sales grew even more than quarter with 54.3 million units sold for a 48.7 percent year-over-year increase. Smartphones now represent 17.3 percent of all mobile phone sales, up from 13.6 percent in first of quarter last year.

Android and IPhone OS market share improved considerably year over-year, with its 112 percent unit growth enough to move it up to 15.4 percent among Smartphones globally. However, a staggering 806 percent unit growth pushed Android well ahead of Windows Mobile into fourth place. Both iPhone OS and Android are poised to catch up to the BlackBerry platform in short order. Apple will have its work cut out for it to stay ahead of Android globally, even as the open source mobile platform has by accounts surpassed iPhone OS-based Smartphones domestically.

Google has announced that they will cease selling the Google Nexus One Smartphone through their web site and to rely on Cell phone carriers for distribution.

It’s a Surprise Google attempted to market the phone Online. Most Smartphone customers want to hold and experiment before buying. The Smartphone is a way of life for millions worldwide and it’s the fastest growing segment of the cell phone business. None of the major carriers nor Google would say which retailers or carrier stores are expected to carry the Nexus One in the U.S., although T-Mobile seems the most likely to do so.

Google started selling its Nexus One in January, unlocked at $529 or for $179 with a two-year contract with T-Mobile. Users could also get an unlocked version for AT&T’s network. The Concept of Unlocked has just not caught on here in the US

As it turns out, that the Google online store and Smartphones that access the Web are a great way to support Google’s core business of advertising, Google says they were not trying to make a profit on sales of the Nexus One hardware but released the device to support Google’s core business of advertising and search.

In marketing circles, Google’s decision, which comes less than six months after launching the online store, is fairly striking. The ramifications of the reversal will resonate in a U.S. Smartphone market that is still obviously dominated by the carriers.

Google says that On-line sales accounted for 200,000 phones. Because of the Subsidy by the carriers the price of the unlocked phone did not justify continuing online sales. At This Stage Google does not have the clout with the Cell phone carriers to get a subsidy on unlocked phones? Android the Mobile phone operating system owned by Google sold more cell phones in the first quarter than Apple, Microsoft or Blackberry and had 28% of the Smartphone Market.

Google and Verizon wireless have announced a new tablet PC running Google’s Android operating system and available with a contract from Verizon at a reduced price or at a higher price unlocked meaning you can use it with the cell carrier of your choice.

This Tablet PC will compete with the recently released Apple IPad. It is one of many trying to capitalize on Apple’s apparent success with its IPad. The new tablet PC will come with Google Chrome Browser for fast web surfing and it promises a app store to rival apples app store and its almost overnight success.

The new model features a touch screen that will allow you to read books, magazine and newspapers, send and receive e mail, browse the web, and store your entire music selection and room left over for more. The tablet Pc will come with a camera good for stills as well as video. Apple’s IPad weighs in at 1.5 lbs. Let’s see what the weight comes in on this one to see how much of a category killer the Google tablet PC will be.

The fact that Google will be distributing the computer under their own brand name means that we can expect this to be a strong competitor. Google recently announced that in the first quarter of 2010 Smartphones running Google’s Android Software accounted for 28% of the Smartphone market ahead of Blackberry and Apple’s IPhone

Other companies that have announced they will be releasing a tablet Pc reads like who’s who in technology and includes, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, Samsung and Sony. These promises to be a competitive product so look for lots of features and go with the features you use.

Goggle’s Android Operating system can do a lot for you. Compared to the cut-and-dried interface of the Apple iPhone, the Android operating system gives you ample room for customization and control. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you make the most of your Android phone’s many features
The start screen looks much different than other Smartphone platforms. You have a lot of freedom to customize the Android desktop–and you aren’t limited to four simple rows of perfectly aligned square icons. As a result, you can customize the Android desktop to reflect your interests, and you can make it as full and dynamic as you like.
The Android desktop is composed of multiple home-screen panels. When you power up your phone for the first time, you’ll see the main home-screen panel. This panel is typically centered you can access additional panels on either side of the main one by swiping your finger left or right. Starting with the 2.1 version of Android, you can also see thumbnail-size icons of all of your panels at the bottom of the screen; to jump directly to a panel without swiping, simply tap the associated icon.
What goes on the home screens is up to you. You can fill the space with any combination of shortcuts, widgets, and folders you like. As you’d expect, shortcuts are small icons that let you load apps or other functions on your phone; they function much like the ones you see on a PC desktop. You can set a shortcut to do anything from a opening a program to linking to a specific Web page to initiating a phone call to a favorite contact. Widgets are dynamic programs that operate directly on your home screen. They can perform any number of functions–giving you the latest weather, for example, or letting you play music from your personal collection or from the Internet. Thanks to the ever-expanding Android Market, your options are practically limitless.
Folders are a good way to keep your content organized while simultaneously expanding your home-screen space. A folder lets you group multiple shortcuts in a single space. When you create a shortcut, a box pops up showing all of the shortcut icons inside the folder. You can fill one folder with one-touch dialing shortcuts to all of your favorite contacts, and another, perhaps, with various phone-number lookup utilities. Folders help you add many useful things to your home screens without eating up a lot of space.
Android phones have four standard keys: a Back button, a Menu button, a Home button, and a Search button. These keys will help you navigate through your phone more easily, no matter what program or process you’re running. Pressing the Back key takes you back one step to whatever you were doing prior to beginning your current step. It works in Web navigation, e-mail navigation, or navigation to a previously open program.
Pressing the Menu key brings up a list of options relevant to the area of the phone you’re currently using. When you press it on the home screen, it permits you to access your phone’s settings and other customization options. The Home key has two functions: If you press it once, it takes you back to your home screen. If you press and hold it, it allows you to multitask and switch to other programs you’ve recently used.
You can always find all of your apps in the app launcher. On phones running Android 2.0.1 or earlier, you open the app launcher by touching the gray tab at the bottom-center of the home screen. Starting with Android 2.1, a new square-based icon supplants the gray tab. The app launcher itself has a slightly different look as of the 2.1 release, too. Within the app launcher, you can tap any app’s icon to run the program, or press and hold it to drag it directly onto your home screen as a shortcut.
Android’s notification panel puts incoming information at your fingertips, no matter what you’re doing. Notifications can come from many different places: e-mail, voicemail, and text messaging, even social network and news applications. When you get a new notification, an icon will appear at the top-left of your screen. You can pull down the panel to see detailed information about the notification and then take action if you wish.
