Intel Core i5 Processor

corei7_900exAlong with the launch of quad core processors with energy efficient Thermal Design Power 65 Watt in this January, Intel also announced that their Lynnfield processors will be ready in the first quarter 2010. In the previous quad core Intel processors use TDP average 95 watts, while interesting, Lynnfield is the value version from Beckton aka Core i7.

Frim information that has been circulating, Core i5 will be different from the Core i7. If mainstream processors generally trimmed from the clock speed or cache memory, Core i5 architecture will have a slightly modified compared to Core i7.

Lynnfield processors will still be a quad core processors like Core i7. But now no longer has a memory controller with the triple-channel DDR3 and Quick Path Interconnect. As a replacement, Intel only suppress the memory controller and dual-channel DDR3 and Direct Media Interface solutions, such as available on the architecture of the processor and chipset that only supports one PCI Express x16 or two PCI Express x8.Benchmark

Because the Lynnfield uses a different architecture to the Core i7, with features that trimmed, the socket that used slighty different. If using i7 socket LGA1366, Core i5 using motherboard with socket LGA1160. The price is certainly more economical than LGA1366 socket motherboard for Core i7, but also create a platform Core i7 is not compatible with Core i5.

Together with i5 Core processors, Intel is also preparing several variants 5 series chipset to support the processor. The chipset is P55, P57, H55, H57, and Q57. QPI does not support all of that is able to bring the bandwidth up to 24 per 32GBps link, but only just 10Gbps. Similar to the P45 chipset that has been circulating at this time, but with the support of the latest processors and socket, which is different from the currently used.
