openSUSE 11.1 RC released

As has been previously scheduled, the openSUSE 11.1 Release Candidate (RC) was launched today. It also marks the launch of the successful completion of the development version of openSUSE 11.1 on the distributions.

This latest version includes a new improvement kernel, many improvements to the bug, and update the latest software including the licenses at once.

The changes after the openSUSE 11.1 Beta 5 released including updates Linux kernel 2.6.27.7, Amarok 2.0 RC1, Zypper 1.0.1, glibc 2.9, and a number of other enhancements.

“If all goes well, this version will be the last release before the final version 11.1 Public Release later released on December 18,” said Joe Brockmeier, one of openSUSE developers, as quoted from Softpedia, Monday (12/01/2008).

openSUSE 11.1 will be distributed via the KDE4 and GNOME Live CD for i386 and x86_64 architectures. Meanwhile, CDs and DVDs for i586/x86_64/PPC architecture, the Net Install Disk, and Addon-NonOss/Addon Language will also be available.

“in three weeks, you can enjoy the latest version of the Linux kernel 2.6.27, KDE 4.1, GNOME 2:24, OpenOffice.org 3, a number of software updates, and much more,” said Brockmeier.

July 24 2008 – openSUSE 11.1 Alpha 1
Aug 21 2008 – openSUSE 11.1 Alpha 2
September 18 2008 – openSUSE 11.1 Beta 1
Oct 3 2008 – openSUSE 11.1 Beta 2
October 16 2008 – openSUSE 11.1 Beta 3
November 3 2008 – openSUSE 11.1 Beta 4
November 13 2008 – openSUSE 11.1 Beta 5
November 27 2008 – openSUSE 11.1 Release Candidate
Desemeber 4 2008 – openSUSE 11.1 Goldmaster release (internal)
December 18 2008- openSUSE 11.1 Public release.

    Opensuse is the Best Linux Distro by a Mile!
    I’ve spent years distro hoping… and I can tell you that Opensuse is where it stops…. as long as you are looking for binary distro’s. Opensuse is awesome. puts the rest to shame

    I have created a Multimedia Pack portable for OpenSUSE, the included programs and codecs are:

    1) VLC
    2) Mplayer
    3) Smplayer
    4) Amarok
    5) DVD::RIP
    6) K9copy
    7) Avidemux
    8.) ffmpeg
    9) w32codec
    10) Gstreamer *
    11) K3B – K3BCodec
    12) Libdvdcss
    13) xine – libxine1*
    14) Kdvdcreator
    15) Winff
    16) mjpegtools
    17) Acetoneiso

    you can install any of the above without internet, they include all the dependencies, just unzip the both files into a folder named MMP2009 and create a repository from that folder as a simple rpm folder in yast, then make a search in the yast installer with the name of the program and check it to install it, this is very important if you don`t have internet at home, and besides, by default Open Suse doesn`t include several codecs due to license matters.
