Asus M50Sv-B1 Notebook Computer

3 July 2008 13 views No Comment

AsusThe ASUS M50Sv-B1 is a very strong all around thin and light notebook that performs extremely well with multimedia and 3D graphics.

With Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 Dual Core Mobile Processor, 3GB PC2-5300 DDR2 Memory and 250GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive, This lets it run smoothly even with the Vista operating system.

Graphics are handled by a capable Nvidia GeFore 9500M GS which is a nice pickup for buyers who are looking to get some graphics performance out of their notebook, though it’s not a full-fledged gaming card.

The M50 series offers a 15.4″ WXGA+ (1440×900) Color Shine (Glare-type) LCD, w/ Asus Splendid Video Intelligent Technology. The system comes in at 14.77 x 10.60 x 1.74 inches and about 6.7lbs so it will probably spend most of its life parked on your desk

Blu-ray Combo Drive allows the notebook to be used as a high definition movie playback platform. The drawback to this is the 15.4-inch display only goes up to a 1440×900 resolution. This is higher than many 15.4-inch screens but it still falls short of the 1080p resolution for the full high definition. At least the system has a HDMI connector that allows it to be hooked up with an external HDTV monitor.

Other features include HDMI-out, eSATA, a card reader, FireWire, VGA-out, a wireless on/off switch, four USB slots (one doubles as the eSATA), ethernet, modem, and a lock slot. Wireless communications are handled by a/b/g/n WiFi as well as Bluetooth. Some models have a mobile broadband option.

Asus LayoutFrom a design standpoint, the control layout have really nice aspect. Full keyboard with numeric pads, Hotkeys on  touchpad. Which saves you space from buttons on the notebook itself. This gives it a big advantage over the tradition notebook keyboard layouts but also means that the system is a bit larger in order to accommodate the keys. The fingerprint scanner works like it should. Ambient Light Sensor is a feature that was brought back on the M50.

The downside to this is that the battery pack included with the laptop provides less than average life for a 15.4-inch system. Asus says the battery if good for about 2 hours with the standard 6-cell unit in place.
